Pontyberem v Hills Plymouth
(First XI)

Hills Plymouth yet again threw away a commanding position in this Division Three encounter.  Bowling first on a pitch that looked like a seamers paradise Hills started appalingly with some extremely sloppy fielding and didn't look like they had gotten out of the cars until Richard Gibby made open Lewis top edge to Shopland.  Hills kept chipping away with Richard Gibby eventually taking 4-55 through his fifteen overs.  Chris Birch had again toiled without much penetration bowling another excellent spell (13-5-29-1).  Daniel Davies was again amongst the wickets with his own variety of spin stuff.  And David Kelly and Steve Manning finishd off the innings leaving Hills Plymouth a not so formidable 147 to win.

The ex-Llanelli bowler Rhodri Lewis opened up one end and immediately got rid of David Kelly.  The second wicket held firm until Shopland (17) played another shot which is usually in his zone to be castled again.  At 37-2 things were steady if unspectacular, but the loss of key wicket James Kelly run out for 18 and then a mini collapse ensured that it was once again up to the lower order to retrieve the situation.

Richard Gibby (33) batted very well showing some very good concentration and found an ally in Steve Manning.  Eventually Gibby was dismissed to a slow looping ball and with wickets running out Steve Manning, who had batted beautifully, took a chance to hit the winning runs and was bowled for 48 leaving Pontyberem to claim the better of the points.  Andrew Lewis was left stranded on 6.

So another disappontment, and with Hills yet to fulfill a third of their fixtures they have to start to respond quickly to climb this table.

Pontyberem 146ao (26 pts) beat Hills Plymouth 143ao (8 points) by 3 runs
